Get Texas Covered The uninsured crisis affects all Texans. Even those with health insurance.
With one in four Texans lacking health coverage, our state has the highest rate of uninsured in the nation. This crisis affects everyone, even those with health insurance:
- Hospital emergency departments are overcrowded with
uninsured patients because they cannot access primary care, compromising quality care for everyone.
- Texas families who are insured pay about $1,551 more for
premiums to help pay for the cost of caring for uninsured patients.
- The vast majority of the uninsured are employees of small businesses or are self-employed who cannot afford premiums.
Businesses, insurers, health care providers and voters agree that action is needed now to make health insurance more affordable and accessible. In fact, reducing the number of uninsured Texans is the Texas Hospital Association’s top priority for 2008-09.
But we can't do it without your support. Please sign up for THA's mailing list and stay informed on THA’s actions regarding this issue and how you can help.
