Physician Self-Referral

THA continues to support a prohibition on physicians making referrals to facilities in which they have ownership interests. To reduce the unfair competitive advantage physician self-referral creates, hospitals owned by doctors should be required to compete on a more level playing field. Doctors should disclose their ownership in facilities to patients, and these facilities should provide emergency care.
